Have I mentioned today....
HOW MUCH I HATE ASTHMA!?!?!
My 3 1/2 year old son has asthma. It seems like every month, we're having some sort of asthmatic crisis. It goes like this:
He starts to cough, tho appearing healthy
His nose starts to run
He starts to sound congested
Cough worsens
Congestion clears
HA! Joke's on you. The Congestion just moved into his chest
He continues to cough for the next 2-3 weeks
After a round of antibiotics and/or steroids, we have a healthy boy again!
.......well, until next week when he'll catch another cold and start the whole process again.
So his last round of illness started around December 5th and he had his healthy week last week. On Saturday (1/10), he started with a dry cough, by the end of the day his nose was running and on Sunday, it had blossomed into full-blown congestion.
Now the most fun part about this whole living hell that is ASTHMA is the medication. At the first sign of a cough, I start the albuterol treatments with the nebulizer. Then I add in this stuff called Ipritropium Bromide (which I have no idea if I spelled that right)twice a day. He also gets inhaler treatments with his Advair twice a day and now he's on Singulair too. But now that he's sick he takes this D-Allergy medication that is supposed to dry up the congestion. So basically, my son is a walking pharmacy nearly all the time.
I hate it.

My son has asthma too. And what you describe here sounds exactly like what we used to go through. But it's been better lately, say in the last two years, which isn't to say he's all better, just the asthma isn't as bad. (Knock on wood.) My kiddo is eleven now. Maybe your baby's symptoms will lessen as he gets older too. I hope so.
Fuck. I've been there. It sucks.
Peace,
A
Thanks Alana,
The hope that he's going to get better with age is what keeps us going. Sometimes I feel so horrible for him.
It really does suck to watch your kiddo not be able to do such a basic thing like breathe!
